COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is designed to equip new immigrants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to actively participate in civic life in their new community. It will foster understanding of their rights and responsibilities, and help them become informed, engaged citizens.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

 

The Civic Engagement 101: Empowering New Immigrants is a 10-week program (2 hours per week) during which the student learns about the fundamentals of civics.

Target Audience: New immigrants (adults)
 

Week-by-Week Breakdown:

Week 1: Introduction to Civic Engagement

Week 2: Understanding Your New Country’s Political System

Week 3: Rights and Responsibilities of Immigrants

Week 4: Community and Volunteering

Week 5: Introduction to Voting and Elections

Week 6: Advocacy and Public Policy

Week 7: Building Leadership Skills

Week 8: Navigating Public Services and Resources

Week 9: Overcoming Barriers to Civic Participation

Week 10: Final Project and Reflection

 

Evaluation:

Participants will be assessed based on their participation, final project, and their engagement in activities throughout the course. The aim is to foster active participation and equip new immigrants with the tools they need to fully integrate into civic life.
