With a strong focus on leadership development, civic engagement, and community empowerment, Dr. Jean-Louis has spent years honing his expertise in adult education and curriculum design. His ability to connect with diverse groups and foster meaningful learning experiences has made him a highly respected figure in the field.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Jean-Louis has demonstrated a deep commitment to social justice and equity, consistently delivering training initiatives that promote inclusion and personal growth. His passion for education and empowerment, combined with his strategic approach to learning, ensures lasting impact for individuals and organizations alike.

Dr. Nahum Jean-louis's Story

​

Dr. Nahum Jean-Louis is the founder and CEO of Quintessence Learning. He graduated from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) with a doctorate in education. Prior to his study at NSU, he attended Florida International University, School of International and Public Affairs where he graduated with a master’s degree in public administration and, two master's certificates in Conflict Resolution and National Security. He also studied International Relations at the same university. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social psychology from Florida Atlantic University in Boca-Raton, Florida. His research focuses on Symbolic violence in school curriculum in the U.S., Curriculum relevance & Black students’ performance in the U.S., Eurocentrism in curriculum of post-colonial countries, Decolonial Education, and Teachers professional discretion & Black students’ success.

For nearly fifteen years, Dr. Jean-Louis has worked in the university system, serving as both a faculty member and an administrator. As an instructor, he has taught American government for more than a decade to a diverse population of students at different colleges in South Florida. As an administrator, he oversaw staff members and developed numerous workshops and trainings for employees of diverse backgrounds.

Currently, He works at FIU as an adjunct faculty, teaching basic skills and competencies necessary for first-year college students to succeed. In this capacity, he helps students develop an understanding of twenty-first century life skills and build a lifelong passion for learning. He also works at FIU Online as Coordinator of Academic Support Services, helping students achieve their goals by connecting them with university resources. More recently, he was contracted as a research consultant by the Small World Group (SWG), an organization based in Washington, DC that specializes in federal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) projects. As a member of its research team, he collaborates on conducting research, analyzing data, and designing interview questionnaires.

Academically, Dr. Jean-Louis completed his doctoral studies in education at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) between 2018 and 2022. During this time, he researched, wrote, and defended his dissertation titled “Teachers’ Perceptions of Symbolic Violence in School Curriculum.” The study explores the symbolic violence in school curriculum that has historically been a problem for Black students in schools around the United States.

Administratively and practically, he has developed strong leadership and management skills in research, professional development trainings, designing surveys, conducting interviews, organizing outreach, and collecting and analyzing data on a wide range of local policy issues.
